About Amber Cactus Parade
A small, independent editorial site about the part of video-making that happens after the camera is put away: turning footage into something finished.
Why this site exists
Plenty of people can now shoot decent footage on a phone or an inexpensive camera. Far fewer get from a drive full of clips to a video they are happy to share. The gap is rarely talent. It is usually a missing process: no backup, no folder structure, no idea which order to do things in, and no point at which the edit is allowed to be finished.
Amber Cactus Parade publishes guides that fill that gap. We cover organising and protecting media, the assembly, rough and fine cut, techniques such as cutting on action and split edits, pacing, dialogue and music, the difference between colour correction and grading, titles and captions, export, and how to take feedback without editing forever.
How we write
- Software-neutral. We describe ideas that work in any mainstream editor rather than teaching one program’s menus. Where we mention a product by name, it is for identification only.
- Plain language. Technical terms are explained when they first appear.
- Hedged where it matters. Loudness targets, upload settings and platform rules change. We say when a number is a common convention rather than a fixed rule, and point you to the platform’s own guidance.
- No invented evidence. We do not publish made-up statistics, studies, testimonials or reviews.
- General information. Our articles are educational. They are not personalised advice for your project, and nothing here is legal advice, including on music licensing.
What we do not do
We do not sell software, plug-ins, presets, courses or editing services. We do not carry affiliate links or sponsored articles, and we do not accept payment for mentioning a product. We make no promises about views, income or results, because those depend on your footage, your audience and a great deal outside anyone’s control. If that ever changes, any commercial relationship will be stated clearly at the top of the page concerned.

If something here is wrong, out of date or stated more confidently than it should be, please tell us. We correct articles on the page and note substantial revisions rather than changing things silently.
